The Fabulous and Breathtaking Amalfi Coast
This is a guide for all the friends of friends who have asked me over one thousand times for advice.
Everybody wants to come to the Amalfi Coast and now a days, and now almost everyone does. Positano has it’s own guide and Ravello is self explanatory. This guide will tell you about restaurants, beach clubs and bars in some different beautiful areas that will hopefully be not so packed with American tourists.
(If you only have a week I say do, Positano, Ravello, Praiano, Conca dei Marini. Capri is another story and I recommend at least 3 days there.)
Where to stay:
Positano or the neighboring town of Praiano. From here you can do day trips to Ravello, Conca dei Marini, Cetara and even Amalfi, if you must.
Hotel Smeraldo is my pick in Praiano. It’s in the dead center of town and for around $200 night you can have a romantic sea view balcony and breakfast on their stunning terrace where you will feel like royalty. Great location to explore the entire coast.
Praiano
Praiano has a tiny town center that is precious to have a coffee and pastry breakfast or aperitivo at sunset over looking Positano. There is only one bar in front of the yellow and green tiled church, you can’t miss it. There is an awesome new hip spot just down the path towards the beach called Cafe Mirante. Look in front of the street for a little sign “spiaggia” and follow the concrete path to the right. In about 5-7 minutes you will come across a tiny adorable bar on your left. A young, cute guy turned his parents’ house rooftop into a chic cocktail bar. He makes a mean mojito and you can watch an amazing sunset with good music and young people. Cafe Mirante Praiano
In the day time you can take this path all the way down to the beach and end up at a beautiful beach club called One Fire. It’s really nice, calm and chill till around 5pm, then the owner decides to drink vodka out of a pineapple and starts a dance party with any chick that will dance with him. It’s quite entertaining actually. Kindof turns into an Italian daytime disco party.
Just down under Praiano to the East, you will find the beach town called Marina Di Praia. Here is my favorite beach club, Il Pirata, It’s awesome, you can lay out all morning and spend the afternoon jumping into the mediterranean sea and then have a gourmet seafood pasta lunch and bottle of white wine on the seaside terrace. This place was build by an old Italian family who physically carved a bar into the side of the rocky cliff. The woman who made this bar sometime in the first half of last century is unbelievably still there working there in the restaurant. Looks like a sweet old grandma but beware, she’s known to grab the ass of the friendly male customer. (Tip* Lunch in Italy is over at 3pm, took me a long time to adapt to this concept, don’t miss lunch) It’s one of the best restaurants in the Amalfi Coast.
