If you are lucky enough to come to Capri this summer the thing to do in the day is definitely the beach clubs. I personally believe they are more of a scene than dinner here and one should not take dressing for the occasion lightly. Here are some tips on which Capri beach clubs to go to (or all of them if you are staying a week on the island!), and the low-down of the scene involved.
Most Famous and chíc: Fontelina
Totally the whos who, jet set, watch me jump off my yacht, I’m so fucking rich and awesome kind of place. Photogenically it’s the best hence why it’s one of the only ones you will see on your IG feed. Also because no one knows of anything else. People live by Instagram. Sad but true. With that being said it is pretty awesome but you most likely will need a reservation. They have an awesome restaurant for lunch which you can come to without paying to enter the beach club for the day.
Coolest and most fun: Da’ Luigi
Just next door to Fontellina to the left on the path, this beach club is my personal favorite and has an amazing swimming spot called Da’ Luigi. This feels more like a real, old Italian movie and believes me they won’t know who you are or give a fuck even if you are quasi-famous. (Italians only know Sylvester Stalone, Robert Dinero, and Lady Gaga. Sorry Kardashians.) This place is legit and the stuffed anchovies and peaches soaked white wine make it even better.
Super chill and great restaurant: Lo Scoglio delle Sirene
“The rocks of the mermaids” This one is down in Marina Piccola. The sunbeds are perched up and on the rocks and the restaurant here is amazing overlooking the beautiful turquoise beach in the bay. Great for an all-day relax in the sun and cheaper to enter than the previous two. Great lunch spot with or without the beach club.
Great for shallow water wading: Torre Saracena
This club has an upper deck but also sunbeds that touch the water on a small pebble beach. If you like to dip and wade, not jump and plunge, this may be the one for you. The restaurant is not amazing, you’re better off with paninis on the beach.
For the extremely wealthy and fancy: Il Riccio
Il Riccio is on the other side of the island in Anacapri. It’s owned by the famous Capri Palace Hotel and even has a Michelin star. The restaurant is definitely one to brag about and fair enough, it’s by reservation only. The decor is magazine worthy and if that’s not enough, there is a chíc roof bar and a fabulous pool to keep your credit cards swiping the entire day. If you can afford it, I would suggest it. It’s truly fabulous and aesthetically stunning.
Party to end the day: Il Faro
Il Faro translates to ‘the lighthouse’ in Italian. It’s on the western tip of the island directly in front of the sunset. There’s a beach club witha pool you can pay to enter or there is the free beach where you can join the jumping young Italiani and lounge on the hard concrete. The highlight here is that you obviously have the longest amount of sunshine and around 7-8pm, the little shack bar becomes a wild apertivo sunset party. A definite must before leaving Capri.
These are my top picks for beach clubs in Capri. During July and August be sure to call ahead for a reservation or go very early in the morning when they open to get a good spot. Have fun and saluté! Just remember, Bridget Bardot and Jackie Kennedy used to come here, consider yourself lucky. xx
