Where to Eat in Capri
Eating can be tricky in Capri, having so many fancy restaurants and all of them being Italian. This guide tells all my favorites and top picks for all different budgets. Buon Appetito!
During the day eating at the beach club you choose is part of the game. Luigi’s and Fontelina are the two best for lunch. The food is fantastic and the scene is sublime. You can also go there only for lunch without spending the day (and the money) of actually being at the beach club.
Another great lunch spot is in is a beach club/ restaurant called Lo Scoglio delle Sirene which means ‘the rocks of the Mermaids’ in Marina Piccola. The restaurant overlooks the tiny part of the end of Marinina Piccola with boats coming in and out and the brightest blue water I have seen since the Caribbean. Also staying all day at the beach club with all the chair perched up on the rocks is a great day idea as well.
If you go on the ‘Via Tragara’ long beautiful walk, you will eventually end up at Le Grottelle. It is a restaurant up on the hill of the cliff outside overlooking the sea. It’s such a special place and the food is very good. It’s known that the German tourists will make reservations months ahead of time for dinner on the night of the full moon to watch it rise up from the sea. The alici marinate (marinated anchovies) are exceptional here.
For a fancy Capri elite experience, Il Riccio (meaning the sea urchin) is the place to be. Design wise it is exquisite. It’s all blue and white, a typical Capri dream house on an open air patio hanging over the sea in Anacapri. It’s owned by the Capri Palace hotel and it’s definitely one of the best and most expensive restaurants on the island. There is also a bar up just above on the roof which is ever so chic just to have a drink and feel the fabulousness. Definitely a must-do in when in Capri.
Directly next door to Riccio, is one of Lylita’s way favorites called Gradola. It is not fancy at all but makes the best crab pasta I have ever had in my life. It’s also a beach club in the day but I reccomend to come at night and get yourself a Spaghetti al Granchio (crab pasta) and a good bottle of white wine. It is very rustic and reminds you of a restaurant made by fishermen in ancient time on the island of Capri but this place is the least expensive restaurant on the island with open air sea view and amazing food. Can’t beat that. One of Capri’s best kept secrets when you want to have a real gypset experience.
If you want a light dinner and are staying in Capri town, Pescheria Le Botteghe is a decent option. It’s a super tiny, well decorated, very cute fish shop, turned chic restaurant. I can’t say the food is amazing but they have great wine and you can eat a super light, crudo (Italian raw fish) dinner with some fried fish snacks. The atmosphere is adorable and the price is good which makes up for the lack of exceptional cuisine.
There are so many restaurants in Capri, just remember, “over dressed is always best” on this island of international Jetsetters. And don’t be scared of pasta. You will most likely walk up and down eight million steps the next day and burn it off. If not, no worries, Italian men love a fat ass.
