The Unknown Italian Island of Procida

Spread the love

Procida is Naples’ best kept secret. This tiny little calm peaceful island is a different world from the insanity of Naples yet only a 9€ boat ride away.

Capri sucks up all the tourist attention, which is fair enough, being the prettiest island ever… but Little Procida deserves a visit. If you ever feel like you just need an island getaway and happen to be in Naples, Procida is the silent heaven you are searching for.

Bring a swimsuit, a book, and walking shoes and get ready to chill.

Where to Stay:

Procida is chill. And incredibly small. It’s only 3.7 kilometers long. You can rent a scooter, bicycle or electric bike at the harbor when you arrive, or you can take the bus and walk like I did.

booking.com is your best bet. I recommend to stay in the center of the island, this way you can walk 15-20 min in each direction to all the beaches and get some exercise.

Casa di Cirro is where I stayed and it was nice, cheap and exceptionally clean.

Beaches

“Spiaggia” is beach in Italian.

The most popular one is Chiaia which give you the view of the “Corricella”, the colorful town picturesque image of Procida. It’s ok. There are a lot of kids and one beach restaurant down to the right. Fine for the day but sun goes away early.

“Spiaggia del Pozzo Vecchio” is a famous beach where they filmed an old Italian movie Il Postino, translation, “the mailman” which this beach is nicknamed after. It’s small and cute with just a beach shack of beer and snacks, no restaurant although the old man after telling me he had nothing, whipped up an eggplant, provola and basil panini. Shockingly delicious.

Il Ciracciolo is my favorite at the north end of the big beach. It has a true awesome beach shack/ restaurant with great food and sunbeds away from the busier south end. Perfect for all day tanning, reading and lunch.

Chiaiolella is at the south end of the same big beach and has numerous beach bars and restaurants. You can walk the entire beach in 15 min. There is a super fancy Miami looking one called Maresia. Proper beach club with grass, pool, and cocktails. Really nice for a mini-scene and cute pics in Procida. Few doors down to the left you will find more restaurants and beach shacks which are all amazing for sunset drinks. Choose which one depending on your mood.

Where to Eat

Da Girone Beach front patio in front of the sunset. Great food and amazing friendly service. When there’s a chilly sea breeze they give you fuzzy blankets which was my personal favorite touch. Make sure you make a reservation. Da Girone dinner date
