Positano beach and restaurant guide

Spread the love
Marina Grande Beach, Positano

My Amalfi Coast travel first tip is to skip Sorrento and Amalfi (the town)

Positano, Ravello and Priano are the best if you are short on time.

Positano

Really a dream and the absolute prettiest town in Italy (in my opinion)

What to do in Positano:

Marina Grande, the main beach in Positano.  Packed, expensive and super touristic.  (Not Lylita’s way) I go to…
Pupetto Beach It’s on the north side. From the main beach, Marina Grande, walk towards the harbor and follow the beach path. You will walk a magnificent short 10-15 min path that will take you to the more local cool beach where you can rent a sun bed and have lunch on the beach!  Go to the last beach restaurant Pupetto itself or there is another one when you first get onto the beach from the path called La Marinella

Lobster Ravioli at Marinella’s

*Pro Tip*  In the summertime order the “Vino con Pesche” Peach in the wine.  Its a pitcher of white wine with peaches soaking in it.  An Italian summer favorite day drink.

Must go to:
Franco’s   For a drink at either around sunset or after dinner.  The coolest bar ever, attached to the Sirenuse Hotel.
Franco’s is the newest bar in Positano and the only one I have ever found that is actually cool and not just a pretty view. The decor is stunning (as the hotel) and they play awesome music. They actually just opened a Sirenuse Hotel in Miami so if you can’t make it to Italy check them out in South beach. I think they are the coolest family south of Rome and know how to live the real “Dolce Vita”.

If you can afford to stay at the Sirenuse, definitely do so.  This is by far the best and coolest hotel in Positano.

Restaurants

First of all, if you are a foodie, you will not be impressed with Positano as much as the other Italian gastronomies.  But it is beautiful. Sometimes you just can’t have it all, get over it.  My tip is where you see menus written in English with a lot of pictures on them, run the fuck away.

Ok now,
If you go up away from the square to the left (north) towards the town of Fornillo, you will see it gets less and less crowded.  Keep going.  It gets prettier and less fatties that don’t want to hike up the hill and definitely would die on the stairs.
These are my restaurant picks:
Il Capitano  Restaurant romantic terrace hanging over the sea that is just magical. Candle lit with a view of the Yachts.  Too pretty for words  (eat dinner or better yet just go for dessert)
Da Vincenzo (my favorite restaurant) There is always a wait but you can put your name in and sit outside on the bench across the street. They will give you a free proscesso while waiting for your table.
Il FornilloFarther up the hill past Vincenzo, basically at the end of the street, there is a precious restaurant with a garden patio all lit up that is so so sweet. If you’re lucky the Italian mariachis will come by and serenade you.
Next2(stupid name I know) but supposedly this is the best restaurant in Positano according to the high-end people I know who actually live there. Definitely expensive but worth a try.
Restaurant Bruno  This is a decent, restaurant well priced restaurant with a cute view.  Totally satisfying and will not be robbed or served fake pizza.  I like that you are outside overlooking the sea and Positano and they have good friend anchovies and white wine.  It is just up the hill on the east end of the town.
Casa e Bottega  Is awesome if you’ve had enough pasta and want something healthy like NY/ LA style for breakfast or lunch. It’s just 10 min up the path from the main beach, Marina Grande, on the driving road. Awesome smoothies, salads and other healthy great stuff.  Even cappuccinos with non-dairy milk!  And it’s also a beautiful home decor shop.
Da’Adolfo  (First you need to call them and make you a lunch reservation) then you get there by going to the small harbor in Marina Grande and asking for the Adolfo boat.  The restaurant will send a boat to come pick you up and take you there for free.  It’s really the coolest Italian thing you can do.  The food is amazing and it’s a crazy, funny outside beach restaurant, kind of like a weird trattoria in Naples but in the most beautiful setting you could dream of.  Also it is just next door to Villa Tre Villa the new celebrity, jet set hotspot hotel.  (If you are super rich or want a celebrity wedding,  You should look to stay there)
Da’Adolfo is my favorite and best recommendation.
